Music on Main Street

The Cortland Music Series started in 2003 as a pilot program with the intention to attract people to Cortland’s Historic Main Street for outdoor entertainment.  The influx of people downtown for the concerts has had a significant positive impact on downtown restaurants, taverns and retailers.

The Music Committee runs the Cortland Music Series L.L.C. with a mission to provide entertainment to the community that otherwise would not be afforded area residents.  Funding for the Music Series is typically by donations only but a state grant was also utilized.  All beverage and tip proceeds go directly into the music treasury along with donations collected at the gate.  All participants except performers and stagehands are volunteer positions.

This year Duke Robbilard, known by the local residents, will return to the series.  Duke played here in the 60’s and 70’s before hitting the national scene and being nominated for a Grammy award. Ten Man Push is a locally grown group who plays not only nationally but internationally as well.  They are the official 2009 Motocross band.  Alo Brazil is an exciting rhythmic group from Philadelphia. One of the group’s original organizers, Peter Bertini, was born in Cortland. They perform a latin/afro beat and reflect all music from Brazil. They have spent time in Brazil honing their skills.  They will bring their Brazilian dancers for a complete performance.  Lastly is Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad.  This is a band from Rochester, NY who performs nationally and have performed and studied in the islands.  2009 will prove to be an exciting series, with a varied range of artistry.
